New in our Vienna Team: Alice Bayer (MEAL Coordinator)
Alice is the new MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) Coordinator at Horizont3000 in Vienna. She holds an MSc in Development Studies and a certificate in “Project, Programme and Policy Evaluation” from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). Alice has worked with human rights and civil society organisations in Peru, India, Colombia, Mexico and Guatemala. Following the birth of her first daughter, she returned to her home country Austria in 2019, and recently worked as the M&E Officer at Superar, Verein zur Förderung der Musik, before joining H3.
Had you heard about Horizont3000 before applying?
I first came across Horizont3000 in 2006 while I was an intern at the Austrian Development Agency in Kampala, Uganda. During a monitoring visit to an Internally Displaced Person´s camp in northern Uganda I met a Horizont3000 Technical Advisor (TA) working with Caritas in Gulu on organisational development and psychosocial support to war-affected persons. I remember feeling inspired by their work and that of the organisation, and H3 had since been on my list of NGOs I would like to work for. Finally, I found a good job match!
How have you liked your first 3 months at Horizont3000?
Since joining Horizont3000 I have been surrounded by dedicated colleagues who are not just passionate about their work but also made me feel welcome from day one.
Is there something new you have learnt since starting your new job?
Apart from gaining insights into the internal workings of H3 as well as the project partners, I have been really interested in learning more about the movement to “decolonize development” through shifting the dynamics of power and knowledge generation from countries in the Global North to the Global South. It´s a conversation that is well overdue.
Are there some challenges that you are looking forward to tackling?
While I am just at the beginning, I am looking forward to rolling out Horizont3000´s new MEAL Policy, getting my head stuck into logframes, activity plans and monitoring sheets, as well as supporting H3 staff and project partners with their monitoring systems. Most of all, I am looking forward to supporting colleagues and our many partners in proving the results of their hard work and learning from past experiences to make their projects even more impactful.
Alice, thank you for the interview!
